The Reading Room
The Reading Room is an educational initiative encouraging and equipping foundation phase learners with reading. The Reading Room steps into the gap of inequality in education and provides reading assistance to every learner in the classroom. One hundred percent volunteer led, we welcome sponsorships and any other form of support.
What do we do?
School Initiatives
The Reading Room works alongside educational facilities and management by providing resources and tutoring services for foundation phase learners. We focus on the needs of the learner by providing the necessary reading assistance.
Individual Attention
Our program is designed to create dedicated spaces where learners, especially in disadvantaged communities, can easily access a variety of books and materials to encourage reading and literacy development. Each learner will have access to one on one sessions with our trained volunteers.
A Love for Learning
We believe in equipping children with the skills to be able to learn for the rest of their lives! With our reading program we believe that we will foster a love for learning in each learner and set them up for a future filled with success.
The Value of Reading
Reading and comprehension skills are fundamental for a child’s development. Reading helps children improve their cognitive skills, enlightens them to new ideas, and develops their critical thinking skills. Early exposure to books helps children develop vocabulary and language skills.
